In the latest episode of the politics and property podcast, EG's senior writer Piers Wehner and former Conservative minister Mark Prisk take a look at the contents of the Spring Budget.
They have digested 61 minutes of the chancellor's speech, 122 pages of the Red Book and reams of supporting documents so that you don't have to.
They also have a look at what the politicians get up to in Cannes, why this might finally be the last gasp for Prisk's baby, the Local Enterprise Partnerships, and how he may have provided the inspiration for The Thick of It.

What does the Budget mean for property?
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has set out his spending plans to tackle the economic costs arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Corporation tax hikes, more support measures for businesses and new levelling-up investments were among the key takeaways. But has the Budget addressed real estate’s needs and will it foster investment? And what’s in store for the UK’s landlords, as the biggest tax burden since the 1960s looms on the horizon?
EG’s news editor Pui-Guan Man spoke to Melanie Leech, chief executive of the British Property Federation, and Walter Boettcher, UK chief economist at Colliers International, about where more clarity is needed on the positives of the Budget, whether the role of real estate was recognised in the levelling-up agenda, and the missed opportunities this time around.

They touch on the need to drive investment in to build to rent, push and pull measures to stimulate a move towards zero carbon in the built environment and the need for the real estate sector to challenge itself on delivering for people.
Listen in for all of that and so much more.

Savvas Savouri does not have high hopes for this year's Budget given that, in his view, "few chancellors have understood economics" in his lifetime. But Toscafund's chief economist argues that Philip Hammond has the chance this year to set the scene for future budgets and that this one could either mean "paralysis" for the property sector or "promise" if he delivers measures such as the long awaited Amazon tax.
