JAHAMA is the new property arm of GFG Alliance, a family-owned steel empire that possesses the UK’s fifth largest land portfolio, and gets described as a “sleeping giant” by its chief investment officer.
The company, which has big development ambitions, has appointed Duncan Mackison, former chief operating officer of Buccleugh Estates, as chief executive of JAHAMA Highland Estates. That company owns 140,000 acres of land in the foothills of Ben Nevis.

Student accommodation provider Unite’s pretax profits have fallen by 32% over the first six months of the year.
The firm reported a profit of £83.9m in the period, down from £122.8m in the same period last year.
The fall was the result of a lower revaluation surplus, caused by yield compression in 2016, the firm said. It added that the outlook for its business remained positive, with student numbers expected to remain high

Strong leasing activity across its portfolio has boosted profits for shopping centre owner Hammerson.
The group’s adjusted pretax profit rose by 6% to £119.4m in the first half of the year to 30 June, while statutory pretax profit increased by 77% to £287m.
