Imad Alarnab was a succesful restauranteaur in Damascus, Syria before he was forced to flee in July 2015. After a 64-day journey through ten countries including a day in the back of an estate car with seven other refugees he made it to the UK.
Now, with the help of Appear Here and Unicef, Imad has been given the space to start again with a tiny pop-up on Columbia Road, E2.

MIPIM 2017: Deutsche Asset Management expects to begin an aggressive drive back into the UK later this year having dramatically reduced its exposure in 2015.
Georg Allendorf, head of real estate in Europe for the fund manager said: “At the moment we are relatively under allocated to the UK. That was mainly driven by us going underweighted on the UK early in 2015 when we had predicted that there would be rise in yields although we did not predict Brexit of course. We believe late in in 2017 as well as in 2018 and 2019 we might see a rebounding of interest in the UK market.”

MIPIM 2017: The market is “late cycle” Chris McGibbon, head of Americas at TH Real Estate and as a result the fund manager is going to focus further on defensive debt investing.
In an interview with Mike Sales, head of Europe and Asia McGibbon said:
“Clearly it feels like we are late in the cycle. When you look at the North American market, to be six years in a row producing a double digit total return in a core property market, you’d say we’re pretty late in the game.
