Owners of retail property have been given a modest boost by chancellor Philip Hammond in his Autumn Statement with the National Living Wage only rising modestly and the burden on “just about managing” families eased according to Hemant Kotak, managing director at Green Street Advisors.
“The national living wage that has been proposed the increase there was marginally less than expected so the burden for retailers is that much lower and that’s a positive for landlords.”

The lack of dramatic measures announced within chancellor Philip Hammond’s Autumn Statement made it a “dream budget” according to Savvas Savouri, chief economist at Toscafund.
“It was a far cry from what we were warned would be an emergency budget when we voted to leave. This is exactly the budget you would have dreamt of rather than the nightmare we were told to prepare for.”
