Bricks & Mortar: How to adapt to an APC referral
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
APC assessment is often the culmination of several years hard work and intensive study. So it inevitably comes as a huge disappointment for a candidate to receive a referral.
Ralph Charlwood, DeLever APC expert coach, mock interview assessor, RICS chair and APC assessor tells Sarah Jackman why candidates might be referred, what they need to do to prepare for a resit and how, ultimately, they should aim to turn a negative experience into a positive.
As he reflects: "Those around you are likely to judge how you deal with it rather than the referral itself. Try and reframe this as an opportunity to demonstrate maturity and grow as a professional. In the years to come you will look back and see it - in the context of other challenges that you will have faced - as a minor setback and hopefully one that you successfully overcame."

In this EG Property Podcast, George Walker, partner and auctioneer at Allsop, Oliver Childs, head of commercial auctions at BidX1, Daniel Owen-Parr, head of professional sector and auction at Together Money and Max Mason, associate director at 574, discuss how the market will perform as the country prepares to leave the EU.

On the right path: discussing the power of mapping
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
We all lose our way sometimes. Particularly when it comes to innovation and trailblazing. When you are forging a new, potentially uncharted path, a little bit of guidance to point you in the right direction can be invaluable.
Good news, then, that talk in real estate is increasingly turning to the power, and value, of location tools. From navigating the inevitable twists and turns along the road to digital transformation to the geospatial technologies elevating the real estate sector to new heights, both in terms of tech solutions and data collection/analysis, everything we do in life is, for all intents and purposes, based on a map.
The power of mapping, geospatial data and location services was the subject of one of our EG podcasts at LREF last week – that and confessions around the table of a nerdy yet universal love of all things cartographical.

The Agenda: The law of forfeiture is oppressive
Monday Jun 17, 2019
Monday Jun 17, 2019
In the latest episode of "The Agenda", Jonathan Seitler QC's alliterative agenda is this: the law of forfeiture is oppressive, obsolete and otiose.
Seitler argues that it is oppressive "both when it is used and when it is not used", putting fear into tenants, and that it is old-fashioned and unnecessary.
However, Jeremy Stephen, associate director at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner argues that forfeiture is not oppressive and you cannot have leasehold title without it - and he has a special prop with him to prove his point.
Will Seitler or Stephen persuade you to his point of view?
